Haul Creek Park
On
October 29, 2009 I led a nature photography field trip for
Lifelong Learning Hilton Head to Fish Haul Creek Park. The Bald
Eagle cooperated by doing a flyover right where I told him to, and
most of the group was alert enough to see him. The half dozen
brave pluff mud waders were luckier (or more agile) than their
leader who sank ankle deep and had it all over my shoes, clothes
and hands, and now it's caked in my diamond ring setting. The
sunny, 75-degree day provided lots of photo ops: armadillo skin,
Black Skimmers, a huge Herring Gull, red & white mushrooms,
Spanish moss in "bloom," a beautiful Horseshoe Crab
specimen, fungus & lychens, spider weaving a web, grasshopper
hiding in wrack, palm hairs, loggerhead turtle egg shell, marsh
crabs, a big wading Great Egret, flock of Ibises, a variety of
wildflowers, and some interesting snags. What a great day!
