I have always wanted to see Bay Point, an uninhabited island across Port Royal Sound from Hilton Head Island. On August 12, 2010, I joined some of our local Audubon members on a Skimmer Cruise to see this beautiful bird habitat. We were awed by the variety of plovers, terns, and other shorebirds feeding here. We used our telephoto lenses, binoculars and scopes to get close looks at the birds without approaching them too closely.
