One day I was leaving the house to guide a dolphin nature cruise and accidentally ran over a beautiful Eastern Glass Lizard. This harmless creature resembles a snake in that it is legless, but it is different in that it has ears and movable eyelids. Adults range from 18 to 43 inches in length, and this one was an 18” specimen. Its underside is solid yellow. Although I had never seen one before, it is common in coastal dune habitats. The tail is easily broken off, thus the name.
