Hummingbirds of the Lowcountry are too small and quick to adequately capture in the lens. 

Ruby-throated Hummingbird--our only common hummer locally. If you want to see a variety of larger hummers, such as the Green Violet Ear (right), visit Costa Rica.

Hummingbird nests are tiny and very difficult to spot, as they blend in so well with the leaves and lichens on branches. Here is a close-up of the tiny nest shown above the arrow in the left photo. This nest was spotted on Edisto Island in Botany Bay Plantation.
